A newly-released children’s book titled Healthy Eating with Liam, the Smart Rabbit, is being launched by Azaliya Schulz, an inspiring mother and nutrition activist. It aims to encourage parents and young children to choose fresh foods over processed junk food and candy. During flu season and continuous Coronavirus pandemics, proper nutrition is especially critical, since better immune health has always been linked to healthy nutrition.
“Diets that are limited in variety and lower in nutrients, such as consisting primarily of ultra-processed foods and lacking in minimally processed foods, can negatively affect a healthy immune system” It is also believed that a Western diet high in refined sugar and red meat and low in fruits and vegetables can promote disturbances in healthy intestinal microorganisms, resulting in chronic inflammation of the gut, and associated suppressed immunity”.[1]
According to Ms. Schulz, children will make healthier food choices if they are educated about the health benefits of fresh foods
and the harmful effects of some chemicals in processed candy. In this story, vitamins in fruits and vegetables are depicted as helpful friends that children can relate to and find entertaining.
